SUN Bucks 2026 Application: What Families Need to Know Before the Deadline

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer EBT), is helping eligible families buy groceries while school is out for summer 2026.

The program is designed to support children who lose access to free or reduced-price school meals during the summer break, and many families will receive benefits automatically.

  • TANF.

  • Certain Medicaid programs in participating states.

  • Free or reduced-price school meals.

  • Foster care, homelessness, or migrant-family status in some states.governor.

How to apply

Applicants are usually asked for:

  • Household income.

  • Number of people in the home.

  • Child school enrollment.

  • Contact information and mailing address.

Deadlines matter

For example, California says families who need to apply must do so by August 31, 2026, while other states have different cutoffs.

What families should remember

The program cannot be used for alcohol, tobacco, non-food items, or prepared hot meals.governor.

If your child may qualify but you have not received a notice, contact your state’s SUN Bucks administrator or your local school district as soon as possible.
